My name is Christian Baudet. I am a second year college student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and currently seeking a major in Media and Journalism. My home is close to campus, so when I’m not in my dorm room, I go back to be with my family and two adorable dogs: Hobbes and Jojo.

I enjoy a wide variety of athletic activities, but there is no other sport I’m more passionate about than ice hockey. I’ve played it at the house level since 2014, and have followed local teams like the Carolina Hurricanes since even further back than that. I started playing as a right wing forward in my first season, but quickly found my place on the team as its goalie.

Aside from ice hockey, I enjoy a wide variety of other sports as well. I like to play pickup basketball either on a local court or in my own driveway. I also enjoy taking trips to the mountains during the winter months in order to go skiing at resorts like Beech Mountain. During the other times of the year, I take joy in leisurely hikes, whether it be on mountainous trails or in local forests.

I strive to work out at least a couple times a week, whether it be at the on-campus gym or with my gear at home. While my mitochondrial disease makes it difficult to exercise for long periods of time, I still manage to find situations where I can enjoy being active.

Additionally, I’ve always had a passion for creative projects. In my free time, I sometimes dabble in physical crafts, such as drawing and designing. However, I focus more on virtual storytelling and digital design projects.

I’ve been also trying to learn animation, graphic design software, and video editing software. I especially enjoy writing, whether it be for articles, scripts, or fictional storytelling. I use these skills both in my fields of school work and my own personal projects.

Along with these hobbies, I’ve gravitated towards many interests over the years. For example, I have a fascination with nature and most of its inhabitants, from large land mammals, to aquatic life, to tiny insects and even arachnids.

I may not spend as much time in nature as my father, who likes to take frequent birding trips. However, when it’s nice out, not mosquito season, and not too hot or humid, I do like to just spend some time just taking in the outdoors.

When indoors, I enjoy a wide variety of media for entertainment. I greatly enjoy video games, movies, tv shows, books, and music from many different genres and mediums. It would be impossible to list them all in this segment.

I also love to passionately take part in the major holidays near the end of the season. It begins with Halloween in October — decorate the house, partake in haunted houses, indulge in candy, listen to Halloween music, and dress up for Halloween parties.

Then comes Christmas — finding and decorating a Christmas tree, setting up decorations, listening to Christmas music, giving and receiving presents with the family, and getting together with people close to me for Christmas meals.

With these interests in mind, I feel like digital storytelling could possibly be a path for me to go down. It provides the capability to combine my passion for creative projects with my various other interests. This current project relates to my interest in ice hockey, specifically with the UNC team.

However, I could choose to center my storytelling around any of my other interests as well. I could write about my hikes and things I come across in nature. I could write tips and info surrounding holidays I hold dear, such as Halloween and Christmas. I could write how I feel about books, tv shows, movies, video games, or music that I like. Any of these routes would appeal to me, and I hope this field ends up being right for me.
